What you will be able to do

  • Price the move against Buffer's real bill first: Essentials is $5 per channel per month, so five channels cost $25.
  • Flat-price plans pass Buffer's per-channel math at four channels: Hypefury Full holds at $19 a month while Buffer reaches $20.
  • Free routes exist: Buffer Free, Metricool Free, Publer Free, Typefully Free, and self-hosted Postiz or Mixpost.
  • Switch for a named recurring problem, not curiosity; every tool in this guide maps to one reason.
  • Migration has a real cost; run the checklist and test one full week before moving your queue.

Buffer remains a capable scheduler with a free plan, an AI Assistant, analytics, and API access. It charges $5 per channel per month on its Essentials plan, so the bill grows with every account you connect. The best Buffer alternative is therefore not the tool with the longest feature list. It is the tool that removes the specific recurring problem Buffer leaves in your week.

This guide compares ten alternatives, grouped by reason to switch: Cadencz, Metricool, Publer, Hypefury, Typefully, SocialBee, Postiz, Mixpost, Sendible, and Vista Social. Every price comes from the vendor's own pricing page, reviewed on August 26, 2026, and linked in the sources at the end. If no reason below matches your work, staying with Buffer is the rational recommendation, and a later section makes that case honestly.

HypefuryCreator automation and growth on X and LinkedInNo: 7-day trial, no card$6/mo for one platform; Full is $19/mo with all channelsBuilt for creator growth, not team approvals

SendibleAgencies running client workspacesNo: 14-day trial, no card$35/mo (Core: 1 workspace, 6 profiles)Workspace pricing is oversized for a single brand
Vista SocialAn agency suite with inboxes and review managementNo: 14-day trial, no card$79/mo (Professional: 15 profiles)Entry price is several times the other tools here

Four pricing models sit inside that table, and the model matters more than the sticker. Buffer and Hypefury Flexible bill per channel, so cost tracks your footprint. Publer bills per account, which behaves similarly but starts lower. Cadencz, Hypefury Full, Metricool, Typefully, SocialBee, Postiz, Sendible, and Vista Social sell flat plans, so cost holds while you add channels inside the cap. Mixpost is a one-time license, so cost holds forever in exchange for running the software yourself. Work out which model fits how many channels you will run in a year, then compare stickers within that model.

Match the tool to the reason you are leaving

Alternatives lists usually rank tools against each other. That framing hides the real question, which is what Buffer is failing to do for you. Start from the problem and the shortlist gets small quickly.

Cadencz: the product-context alternative

Cadencz is the relevant alternative when the gap appears before scheduling. It stores product context in a Product Brain, plans the week from real source material, writes a separate native draft per destination, and holds every AI draft for human approval before anything publishes.

Starter is $19 a month for 5 connected accounts, Plan My Week batches of up to 7 posts, and 150 shared AI generations. Pro is $39 with 11 connected accounts and 400 shared AI generations. Paid weekly planning continues until the shared AI pool is used. Annual billing takes 20 percent off.

It is not a drop-in Buffer replacement. There is no public API, no Instagram, and no TikTok, and access may be invitation-only while the product is in beta. Switch for the drafting workflow, not for breadth.

Metricool: the reporting alternative

Metricool's free plan manages one brand and schedules up to 20 posts a month, though LinkedIn is excluded and X requires a paid add-on or the Advanced plan. Starter begins at $20 a month and covers up to 10 brands; Advanced begins at $53 and adds complete X analytics.

Choose it when analytics, competitor tracking, or client reports are the reason Buffer feels thin. Do not choose it for a founder-style drafting workflow; its strength is measurement, not product memory.

Publer: the budget alternative

Publer Professional is $5 a month for the first social account and $4 for each additional one, with extra team members at $2. The free plan covers three accounts, excluding X, with 10 pending posts per account. AI Assist, analytics, and best-time posting sit on the Business plan at $10 for the first account plus $7 per additional.

Because it is priced per account, five accounts on Professional cost $21 a month against $25 on Buffer Essentials. The gap is small, so switch for the unlimited scheduling and permanent post history rather than for the few saved dollars.

Hypefury: the creator alternative

Hypefury sells two plans. Flexible is $6 a month for one platform and $6 for each additional one. Full is $19 a month with all channels included, on a 7-day trial that does not ask for a card. That is the same headline price as Cadencz Starter, with more channels and an easier trial, and this guide would be selective if it did not say so.

Do the Flexible math before picking it: at four platforms Flexible costs $24 a month, so Full is the better buy from the fourth platform on. Against Buffer, Full undercuts Essentials as soon as you pass three channels.

Its center of gravity is creator growth on X and LinkedIn: scheduling, re-posting, and engagement automation. It is not built around formal team approval or a product knowledge system, which is where Cadencz and the agency tools take over.

Typefully: the writing-first alternative

Typefully treats the editor as the product. The free plan includes one social set and 10 posts a month across X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, and Mastodon. Creator is $99 a year, on annual-only billing, and adds X analytics, AI writing features, and unlimited media uploads for one social set. Business is priced per social set for teams.

Choose it when drafting quality on text platforms is the whole reason you post and that five-platform list covers everything you publish. It is the closest tool here to Cadencz's channel mix, which is why a dedicated comparison exists in the related classes below.

SocialBee: the evergreen recycling alternative

SocialBee organizes posts into categories, bulk-schedules from them, and re-shares evergreen posts automatically, with expiry dates for time-sensitive ones. Bootstrap starts at $29 a month with 5 profiles on a 14-day trial without a card; there is no free plan.

Choose it when a library of durable posts should keep working on a cycle while you write new material. Skip it if every post you publish is written fresh for the day it goes out.

Postiz and Mixpost: the self-hosted alternatives

Postiz is open source. Deploying it on your own server is free, and the hosted cloud starts at $29 a month for 5 channels with unlimited posts. Mixpost is also self-hosted: the Lite edition is free, and Pro is a one-time $299 payment with a year of updates and a perpetual fallback license.

The trade is operational. You maintain the server, apply updates, and register your own developer apps with each social network, and some networks approve those apps slowly. For a technical founder who wants no subscription at all, Mixpost Pro costs about one year of Buffer at five channels.

Sendible and Vista Social: the agency alternatives

Sendible Core is $35 a month for one workspace and 6 profiles, with unlimited users on every plan and a 14-day trial without a card. Vista Social Professional is $79 a month for 15 profiles, also on a 14-day trial. Both are organized around client workspaces, approvals, and reporting.

These point the right way when the reason you are leaving Buffer is client work rather than your own brand. For a single founder brand they are oversized, and the tools earlier in this list solve that job for less.

When is Buffer still the right choice?

An honest alternatives guide has to state the cases where the incumbent is the right answer. Buffer wins more of them than most lists admit.

  • One to three channels: the free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each, which is a real workload for a focused founder.
  • Light paid use: at $5 per channel per month, two channels cost $10, under every paid plan in this guide except Publer.
  • API access: even Buffer's free plan includes an API key with 3,000 requests a month. Cadencz has no public API at any price, though it does ship an MCP server from Pro.
  • Trial time: 14 days on paid plans, longer than most tools here offer.
  • Scale discount: channels beyond 10 cost less per channel, which softens the per-channel model exactly where it hurts.
  • Familiarity: your queue, integrations, and habits already exist, and a migration risks a quiet publishing week at the wrong time.

The arithmetic flips at four channels. Buffer Essentials at four channels is $20 a month and climbs from there, while Hypefury Full holds at $19 with all channels and Postiz Standard holds at $29 for five. Cadencz Starter matches five channels for $19, which Buffer undercuts at $15, so the case for Cadencz is the drafting workflow rather than the arithmetic.

Questions founders ask before switching

  • What does Buffer actually cost at five channels? $25 a month on Essentials and $50 on Team, because both bill per channel. The full math from one to fifteen channels is in the Buffer cost guide linked below.
  • Is there a free Buffer alternative? Several. Metricool manages one brand free without LinkedIn or X, Publer covers three accounts without X, Typefully includes one social set with 10 posts a month, and Postiz and Mixpost are free if you self-host.
  • Which alternative is cheapest with AI writing included? Publer Business at $10 a month for the first account includes AI Assist, and Cadencz Starter includes 150 AI generations a month at $19, and the free plan includes 10.
  • Can these tools post to Instagram or TikTok? Most third-party tools here can; check each vendor's channel list. Cadencz cannot: its 9 live channels are text-first networks, and it does not publish to Instagram or TikTok at all.
  • Do my scheduled posts move over when I switch? Assume nothing transfers. Export what you can, rebuild the queue by hand, and keep Buffer running until the new tool has published cleanly for a full week.
  • Which alternatives are open source? Postiz, which is free to self-host with a hosted cloud from $29 a month, and Mixpost, whose Lite edition is free and whose Pro license is a one-time $299.
  • Is Cadencz a drop-in Buffer replacement? No. It has no public API and 9 publishing channels, though there is a free-forever plan with unlimited scheduling. It is the right move when the recurring problem is generic AI drafts, because it writes from stored product context and routes every draft through approval.

Before migrating, run this check

  • Name the repeated problem in one sentence.
  • Confirm the alternative supports every account and post format you actually use.
  • Price the exact configuration: channels, brands, members, X access, and API needs.
  • Check the billing terms; Typefully Creator, for example, bills annually only.
  • Export or account for drafts, history, schedules, and analytics you may lose.
  • Test one complete week before moving the primary publishing workflow.
  • Keep the old subscription until the new tool has survived that week.

Keep the arithmetic honest

If the per-channel bill is the reason you are reading this, do the cost math before choosing a destination. These two pages carry the numbers.
